Teaching

I wouldn’t have made it this far in math without enjoying the pleasure of teaching and sharing knowledge, and have been glad to be a part of institutions that value teaching and instructor development. I have taught the following courses as primary instructor, and many more as recitation/lab instructor:

Linear Algebra, Foundations of Advanced Mathematics (Intro to Proofs), Calculus 2, Calculus 3, Intro to Discrete Math, Statistics for Scientists, Probability and Statistics, Long Calculus II

Some of my favorite teaching experiences were with the (since-closed) Center for Academic Equity at the Tulane University of Louisiana. I was an instructor for their NTC Summer Experience in 2017 and 2018 and have also led Calculus workshops for students affiliated with the Center during the semester.

Writing on pedagogy and the profession

I was part of the Red ’22 Project NExT cohort which stimulated my interests in innovative and evidence-based teaching, alternative grading, and active and participatory learning. Check out work that I’ve done on mastery-based testing at Mines:

Becky and I have also published a few short pieces on teaching postdoc positions through the MAA.

More recently, I wrote about some experiences doing math circles in jails. Hopefully it can be a resource to others interested in doing similar projects.
